Honest Review: Dr.Jart+ Dermask Brightening Solution (sheet mask) – The Skin Saviour that I always Come Back To

Out of all sheet masks that I have purchased in my life, I have repurchased and gifted this one the most, I think. Overall speaking, as a brand, Dr.Jart+ can do no wrong in my mind – I have never met a product of theirs that I did not love, and this sheet mask is no exception, more on that in a minute.

That being said, I feel terrible using sheet masks seeing as how much they contribute to landfill. They are probably not very kind to the environment and I do try to limit my use of sheet masks to a minimum, which in my case is once or twice a week.

The rest of the time, I use masks that come in tubs and tubes to at least somewhat limit my environmental impact. No matter how bad I feel, I always have at least one of these Brightening Solution sheet masks on standby in my fridge. Let’s get into the review!

・What it is: ・

This is a sheet mask. You wash and tone your face, then you chuck this one on, relax for 10-20 minutes and then continue with the rest of your skincare routine. I would recommend using at least a moisturiser or a facial oil on top to seal in all the goodness of the mask. Just an all-round great sheet mask.

・Price & Availability: ・

This sheet mask usually goes for ₩5,000, though they go on sale often. I usually get a 1+1 deal (that’s how Koreans call ‘buy 1, get 1 free’ – BOGOF), which works out to ₩2,500 per mask, roughly US$ 2. It is a little pricey but not overly so.

・Size/Quantity: ・

Each packet contains 1 mask which is soaked in 30 g (1.1 oz for all you Americans) of essence.

Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Dipropylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Trehalose, Stearic Acid, Allantoin, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pyridoxine HCl, Maltodextrin, Sodium Starch Octenylsuccinate, Silica, Glutathione, Bisabolol, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbate 60, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.

Neither Skincarisma nor cosDNA throw up any major red flags, though the fragrance and essential oils could be a concern to some. Do note that my skin is pretty sensitive to essential oils and perfumes, yet the mask never bothered my skin in the slightest.

Nice sheet mask packaging in my books. The packet feels like paper, yet it must be coated or treated with something, or else the essence would leak out. Interesting!

The design is minimalist and clean, yet bright. Two thumbs up! I also appreciate the fact that the mask has a little plastic separator inside which keeps the sheet from sticking to itself when you unfold it, though of course that’s not really great for the environment… do know that I recycled this one and the outer packaging. I always try to reduce-reuse-recycle as much as I can.

・What the company says:・

+Glutathione: Contains antioxidant properties and brightens complexion.
+Niacinamide: Brightens the complexion.
+a-Bisabolol: Derived from a natural plant to promote melanin production and brighten skin.

This Brightening Solution Mask is made with fine microfiber to help active ingredients penetrate deeply for ultimate brightening benefits.
A powerful antioxidants, glutathione, niacinamide and α-bisabolol visibly brightens skin to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation such as dark spots, acne scars, and discoloration while inhibiting melanin production.

Remove film and apply mask over cleansed face. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes then remove gently. Do not rinse. Massage remaining serum into skin and follow with moisturizer.

The essence is of the slightly creamy, yet still opaque kind. It feels rich going on – no dripping, no wateriness.

The scent is hard to describe for me. Clean, skincare-y? Sorry, can’t come up with any cool adjectives here. It is not intrusive and whatever is there that you smell, well, it will dissipate. Nothing to offend your senses here. I’m sensitive to fragrance and this freaked out neither my nose nor my skin.

Here’s how I use this sheet mask, and pretty much any sheet mask for this matter .

I keep my masks in the fridge for maximum refreshment or cooling down reactive skin. I still get bad breakouts from time to time. 😥

I proceed as follows:

  • cleansing (eye makeup remover, micellar water, oil cleanser, foam cleanser)
  • toning (acid toner, hydrating toner)
  • treatments (hyualuronic acid serum, topped with a hydrating toner, followed by an essence or serum)
  • …. and only then do apply this sheet mask.
  • moisturiser
  • face oil

That is how I get maximum return on investment with this mask, I feel.

This mask works so wonderfully. Let me count thee ways!

First off, the sheet itself is a wonderfully luxurious microfibre mask. None of that crap that tears easily. Oh no! This one is very sturdy and adheres beautifully. I’ve had this on for 30-40 minutes and it never really fully dried down, making me feel as though you really get an intensive mask treatment and lots of bang for your buck as it encases your face thoroughly.

I know what you’re thinking though, I’m one of the whitest Caucasian women out there. Why would I pick a brightening mask?? Aren’t I bright enough??

Well let me tell you, I use this to soothe active breakouts and heal existing acne scars, for which this mask works a treat. It brightens pimple marks so I can actually go out and look presentable for work. Yay!

Skin feels really hydrated and brightened and just all around nourished. I do feel a light tingling every time I use this, which I attribute to the high content in niacinamide – I have made similar experiences with products containing niacinamide in the past.

This is a rare treat for me but I like to use one of these before special occasions or when preparing for date nights with the husband or play dates with my friends.

・Final Thoughts:・

Nothing in this world is an absolute must I guess apart from sleep and food and shelter and a minimum of social contact, so I am not going to tell you that you *must* check out this mask. I would recommend that you do, however. 😊

If you have sheet mask recommendations for sensitive acne prone skin, do leave one in the comments!

  1. This mask sounds amazing! I saw it at a Kbeauty shop in London yesterday and thought of your recommendation but it was at a really crazy price (more than double) so had to walk away haha can’t wait to be back in Korea!
