Review: Sally Hansen – Insta Dri Top Coat

I really enjoy giving myself manicures on my days off because it forces me to sit still for a minute and not be productive. I run my life like it’s the military, but I do recognise at the same time that sometimes, I guess I should try and just sit, if only to live a little and smell the roses (or in this case, the nail polish fumes, as it were).

I just find it so hard to be non-productive.

A top coat is essential for me when doing my nails, as otherwise, my hard work is apt to be ruined and chipped within 24 hours. This is where Sally Hansen Insta Dri comes in. In case you are interested, I have previously reviewed their nail hardener over here.

・What it is: ・

It’s a top coat that you apply as the last step of your manicure.

Great stuff!

・Price & Availability: ・

So far, I have only seen these physically available at Olive Young for ₩12,900, which is a bit steep for a nail polish product.

・Size/Quantity: ・

This comes in a good-sized bottle containing 0.45 fl oz / 13.3 ml.

Personally, I like the packaging. It’s giving me 90s nail tech vibes and as someone who was a kid in the 90s, I approve.

・What the company says:・

Our exclusive Acrylic Polymer complex hardens and dries any nail color to the touch in just seconds. And double UV filters help keep color fresh. Use Insta-Dri Top Coat™ for a shiny, super-fast manicure that lasts up to 10 days. Apply nail color. Wait 2 minutes and apply 1 coat of Insta-Dri Top Coat™ for a long-lasting chip-resistant finish. For a mani in a minute, get Insta-Dri Top Coat™! Step into your always-on salon. No menu. No rules. America’s #1 nail brand, Sally Hansen puts the power of self-made beauty in your hands, with salon-tested solutions and on-trend colors.

While this starts out rather liquid-y and runny, it does get gloopy after a year or so of weekly use, but I guess that’s ok. As you expose a product to air – and you are apt to, if you do your nails – then of course some chemicals and ingredients will evaporate, which in turn thickens the texture.

I quite liked the brush that this top coat came with. It’s nice and broad, and allows you to cover the entire nail quite easily with 2-3 strokes, which is great for when you are in a rush.

I really liked how this added some high-polish shine to my nails, giving it an almost gel like finish and a more professional look. I also felt that this extended the life of my at-home manicure greatly.

I cannot however vouch for the promise that it dries your nails within 60 seconds. Yes, it feels dry-ish to the touch, but that does not mean your nail varnish won’t move around if you are to accidentally bump your freshly painted nails into the kitchen counter right afterwards or that it won’t leave a finger print if you touch your nails, because, spoiler alert: it will. But seeing as I only do my nails late at night anyways when I am less likely to be engaged in any hands-on activities, that is fine by me. I let them dry for 30-45 minutes, then go to bed and wake up with shiny nails.

・Final Thoughts:・

I really enjoyed using this and will be repurchasing once I run out of my current top coat.

  1. ooo I wonder if I can find this in Boots around here ~ I usually use the Rimmel 60 second nail polishes because I hate waiting too long – I find that it’s quicker than regular polishes but actually takes longer than the claimed 60 seconds.
