Review: Dr Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution (sheet mask)

Dr Jart has had a few duds for me in store as of late especially when it comes to sunscreen and mist products, however they are killing it at the sheet mask game still, even after all these years.

For reference: previous Dr Jart sheet mask reviews:

– Dr Jart+ Dermask

– Dr Jart Ceramidin

And today’s mask review proves no exception! I really enjoyed using this super hydrating mask. Read on for details, ingredients and photographic evidence.

・What it is: ・

It’s a sheet mask.

・TL;DR:・

Made my skin feel super hydrated and comfortable.

・Price & Availability: ・

I got my mask from Olive Young. They usually retail for ₩4,000 but go on sale all the time, just wait for a bit if they are not and then snap up yours for ₩2,000 instead. On their US site, these go for US$ 6 each.

・Size/Quantity/Packaging: ・

The mask is a tad larger than other sheet masks and comes in that cool Dr Jart packaging that feels like paper but obviously cannot be just paper or else it would not contain the watery essence that the mask is soaked in.

The print is minimalist and beautifully colourful at the same time; personally, I really enjoy the design and look of this sheet mask.

The packet contains 25g of product, which is fairly standard for a Korean sheet mask in my opinion.

・Ingredients:・

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Panthenol, Betaine, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Algae Extract, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Chlorphenesin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Schizandra Chinensis Fruit Extract, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Carbomer, Arginine, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil.

What really surprised me is how high alcohol is on the list as usually, my skin will have a right freakout. Either I need to rethink my stance on alcohol, or perhaps the other ingredients in the mask make its presence negligible. Or perhaps, the mask doesn’t stay on the skin long enough to present any adverse effects? Who knows.

・What the company says:・

This Vital Hydra Solution Mask is made with fine cellulose fiber to help active ingredients penetrate deeply for ultimate hydration. It contains aquaxyl and xylitol to enhance moisture retention and strengthen the skin’s barrier by preventing water loss. Oligo-hyaluronic acid and algae extract supports long-lasting moisturization and supports nautural [sic] collagen synthesis to keep skin looking and feeling hydrated and completely refreshed.

Remove film and apply mask over cleansed face. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes then remove gently. Do not rinse. Massage remaining serum into skin and follow up with moisturizer.

・Consistency/Texture:・

The texture of the mask is very soft and comfortable on skin. Dr Jart makes some of the most comfy, snugly fitting, luxurious and gorgeous feelings in the industry and this mask was no exception. It just felt so good on skin, did not drip, and stayed on. Great adherence and it allows for the essence to be released slowly, allowing you to leave the mask on for 30-40 minutes easily. That’s kind of how I measure the quality of my masks.

I know you are only meant to leave them on for 10-20 minutes but I tend to leave mine on for 20-30 minutes most of the time if the mask feels nice and if I am not under time pressure for whatever reason. So if I can leave a mask on for 30-40 minutes without it drying out, that means quality to me, just like in this case.

・Scent:・

The mask does not contain fragrance per se but several plant extracts that act as a scent. I really liked the gentle, soothing scent of this mask that was fresh and minerally.

・Application:・

I used the mask after my usual routine of makeup removal, double cleansing, toning and applying one or two serums. My skin, starting out, looked like this – not perfect, but not terrible either.

I then proceeded with the sheet mask and it looked like this going on.

Super soft material as mentioned above, just a touch big around the forehead but overall a pretty nice fit.

And this is how my mug looked afterwards. Plus a few bonus shots of the morning after and my face after 5 hours of sleep on the bus on the way to some dastardly scheduled teachers conference on a wintery Saturday morning, with just light makeup on, to give you an idea what my skin looked like the morning after. If you’re an ESL (English as a second language) teacher in Korea, you’ll know exactly what I mean by dastardly scheduled teachers conference 😁.

・Efficacy:・

I feel as though pictures may not do the reality of this sheet mask justice, but basically, my skin felt so very, very soft, hydrated and comfortable. It had not felt as nice in a long time and I just felt really good about myself and how my skin looked.

Skin was smooth, boing-boing bouncy and glowy and effects lasted throughout the next day, which is not something that can be said about many sheet masks, in my opinion!

・Final Thoughts:・

I will definitely be getting this mask again in the future. My only dilemma with sheet masks is that there are so many options out there and I want to try them all, so I rarely get to revisit the ones I liked! #firstworldproblems
