Ampoules, Serums, Essences: Empties!

Serums, ampoules and essences are another treatment category that I use up super quickly. Here are four that I have finished lately-ish:

Some by Mi, Missha, isoi, Hada Labo

Some by Mi – AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Serum

If you are a long-term reader, you may already know that my love for Some by Mi’s 30-day miracle toner knows no bounds. I did not use it for a couple of months as I was unable to find it locally, and my skin was not happy!

Seeing as the serum came from the same range, I had high hopes for it… and it was a good product! It hydrated and moisturised, it added a little glow, it played well with all my other skincare products. I am actually thinking of getting it again. Due to its oily texture, I would personally think of it as more suitable for drier skin types or as a winter product.

Missha – Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Rx Pro Ferment Alpha

I have been using this cult favourite FTE (first treatment essence) on and off for years, ever since I came to Korea really. It is deeply hydrating and plumps up skin very well. It also adds a glow and boosts luminosity. If glass skin is your skincare goal, this might be one to check out. While it is a bit pricey, it does what it says on the tin and then some.

isoi – Acni Dr. 1st Speedy Spot

I finished this a long time ago and somehow never talked about it. Now that I am on a collision course with middle age, this product contains much too much denatured alcohol, which is something that I am trying to stay away from to avoid irritation and drying of the skin. That being said, I think I would have loved this and benefitted from it in my teenage years and early 20s. It does bring down inflammation and is not (overly) drying on zits. It also reduces redness somewhat. Still, not something I am looking into getting again as my skin is pretty sensitive to alcohols these days.

Hada Labo – Perfect Gel

Ok, so I think this might be marketed as a cream, but personally, I think of it as a serum more than anything else due to its complete lack of occlusives. I got this purely based on my love for Hada Labo’s Gokujyun Premium Lotion from the same line, which is an absolutely magical, gold star hyaluronic acid that I keep repurchasing every time it runs out.

The gel formula works exactly like the lotion, but you get less product for a higher price. If I am completely honest, I don’t really understand the point of the gel cream and will not be looking into getting it again as I find that the lotion is much better value for money, while giving me the same results.

Final thoughts

All of these are really well formulated products – whether or not they will work for you is probably going to depend on your individual circumstances. Have you tried or finished any of these? What is your favourite serum? Let’s continue the conversation in the comments. 🏄‍♀️

  1. I haven’t tried any of these but I’d love to try the Some by Mi – AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Serum. It sounds like the kind of serum I could fit into my winter morning skincare routine.

  2. You could probably use it on its own after cleansing, then slap on a sunscreen and call it a day! If you’re looking to simplify your routine, you may like it.

Unfortunately for me, my skin loves lots of thin layers of hydration so I have to layer this one to get maximum benefit out of it.
